Digital marketing interviews are lost on structure more than knowledge. You can define SEO and separate CTR from conversion rate, but the questions that decide the outcome are the ones that ask what you would check first, in what order, and why - and those need a method, said out loud.
TL;DR
- Interviewers test method, not memory.
- Clarify before you answer.
- Say what would change your mind.
What is really being tested
You memorised the definitions. The interviewer is not checking them. They are checking whether, faced with a real problem, you would ask the right questions, sequence your investigation, and communicate clearly while doing it.
That is why "cost per acquisition doubled in a week, what do you do?" beats "what is CPA?" every time.
The question types
Diagnostic questions about a problem. Prioritisation questions about limited budget. Measurement questions about proving results. Communication questions about explaining to a non-marketer. Judgement questions about when not to do something. Prepare a method for each type rather than an answer for each question.
How to practise
Answer out loud, then score yourself on structure: did you clarify, state your approach, name what you would check first and why, and say what would change your mind. The interview simulator does exactly this for six specialisms.
